My Conference Experiences...
In 2010 I submitted a paper and was accepted for the first time at the regional Conference of the Americas. The conference is organized by "The Americas Council (who) provides an annual conference for presenters and participants to explore critical socio-cultural, political, economic, global, regional and national issues including the challenges and opportunities facing Latin America, the Caribbean and Canada." Though I was originally slated to present in 2010, the weather had other plans for me. I was finally able to present at the 2011 conference and my paper was very well received and I was congratulated by the council president on my research and detail in presentation.
In spring 2010 I presented at SEWSA- the South Eastern Women's Studies Association conference in South Carolina. My paper explored the villification of women in the canonical literature of men. My paper explored classic texts like "Beowulf" and compared the treatment of women to modern texts like The Handmaid's Tale
In spring 2011 I was welcomed back to SEWSA to present at the Atlanta conference, and I presented my research into children of war, though I dealt with fictional characters such as the Pevensie children of the Narnia series and the Murray's of the Wrinkle in Time series.
